Medical Laboratory Technician I

CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline is a major acute care medical facility serving the Coastal Bend region. The hospital offers diagnostic and surgical specialty services in cardiac, cancer, stroke care, emergency medicine, intensive care, cardiac catheterization, and surgical services.

This role performs clinical testing in assigned laboratory sections, including general laboratory, Blood Bank, and Microbiology, to ensure accurate and timely results. The position also supports quality control, performance improvement, proficiency testing, preventative maintenance, clerical duties, phlebotomy, and blood product dispensing.

The work schedule is 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM. This is a full-time position.

Requirements & Qualifications

Associate degree or higher in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent training and experience meeting CLIA requirements.

Applicants must meet one of the following educational/training paths:

  • Completion of an official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course of at least 50 weeks and current military occupational specialty as a medical laboratory specialist; or
  • 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, including either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses or 24 semester hours of science courses with chemistry, biology, and related coursework; and
  • Laboratory training through an approved or accredited clinical laboratory training program, or at least three months of documented laboratory training in each specialty performed.

Experience requirements:

  • No experience required for graduates of an approved clinical laboratory training program; or
  • Six months of approved clinical laboratory experience with rotations in Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids.

Licenses and certifications:

  • Louisiana state licensure required where applicable.
  • New graduates must be board certified or eligible and complete certification within one year of hire, except in Louisiana.
