Common Language Description

The CPT® Code 28092 refers to the excision of a lesion located in the tendon, tendon sheath, or joint capsule of the toe, which may include procedures such as synovectomy. This procedure is typically indicated for lesions such as cysts or ganglions that can develop in these anatomical structures. During the excision, a surgical incision is made over the affected area, allowing the surgeon to access the lesion directly. The surrounding soft tissues are carefully dissected to expose the lesion, which is then meticulously separated from the healthy tissue to ensure complete removal. The excised lesion is subsequently sent for pathology evaluation to determine its nature and any further treatment that may be necessary. Additionally, if there is inflamed synovial tissue present, it may be removed using a motorized suction shaving device to enhance the outcome of the procedure. It is important to note that this code specifically applies to procedures performed on the toes, distinguishing it from similar procedures on other parts of the foot, which would utilize a different code, such as CPT® Code 28090.
