An Unna boot strapping is a specialized medical procedure used primarily for the treatment of venous ulcers located on the lower leg. The Unna boot itself is made from a moist, gauze bandage that is impregnated with a combination of zinc oxide, calamine lotion, and glycerine. The application of the Unna boot involves wrapping the bandage from the toes up to just below the knee, ensuring that the ulcer is fully covered and supported. Once the bandage is applied, it dries and hardens, forming a rigid support structure that helps to stabilize the leg and reduce swelling. Additionally, an elastic bandage is wrapped snugly around the Unna boot to enhance venous return, assisting in the movement of blood from the extremity back to the heart.
