The CPT® Code 71015 refers to a radiologic examination of the chest performed in a stereo frontal view. This procedure is designed to capture detailed images of the chest area, which includes critical structures such as the heart, lungs, bronchi, major blood vessels (including the aorta, vena cava, and pulmonary vessels), and the surrounding bones (such as the sternum, ribs, clavicle, scapula, and spine). Unlike a standard chest x-ray, which provides a single frontal view as indicated by CPT® Code 71010, the stereo frontal examination involves taking two images from slightly different angles. This technique, known as stereoradiography, allows for a more comprehensive view of the internal structures by creating a three-dimensional representation when the two images are combined. The resulting images can be recorded on hard copy film or stored electronically as digital images, facilitating easier access and review. After the images are obtained, a physician examines them for any abnormalities and prepares a written interpretation of the findings, which is essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
