The staggered spondaic word test, identified by CPT® Code 92572, is a specialized auditory assessment designed to evaluate auditory processing function. This test is particularly useful in diagnosing various auditory function impairments. It employs two-syllable words, known as spondaic words, which are pronounced with equal emphasis on each syllable. Examples of such words include "airplane," "hotdog," "padlock," "baseball," "railroad," and "mushroom." During the test, the auditory stimuli are delivered through earphones in a staggered manner. Specifically, the initial part of the first word is presented to one ear, while the final part of the second word is delivered to the opposite ear. Simultaneously, the concluding part of the first word and the initial part of the second word are presented equally to both ears. The participant is then instructed to repeat the spondaic words as they hear them. The results of the test are scored, and a comprehensive written interpretation of the findings is provided, which aids in understanding the individual's auditory processing capabilities.
