GI Alliance is seeking an experienced Medical Records Specialist I.
This position is responsible for assembling patient information into patients' medical charts/records accurately and completely.
Responsibilities include:
- Assembling patients' health information including symptoms, medical history, exam results, X-ray reports, lab tests, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
- Reviewing to ensure all forms are completed, properly identified, signed, and organized in manual and/or electronic files in preferred styles such as chronological.
- Communicating with physicians and healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses or obtain additional information.
- Submitting files and documentation to physicians and clinicians for review, quality assurance, and other purposes.
- Providing charts/documents for legal actions in compliance with patient consent and confidentiality protocols.
- Managing the patient portal for the medical office.
- Using practice management software to store, analyze, and retrieve data to improve patient care, control costs, respond to surveys, or research.
- Protecting patient health information confidentiality and data security.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
- Minimum two years experience as a medical records specialist, preferably in a medical practice setting.
- Entry level: 1–4 years experience or meets basic requirements needing supervision.
- Ability to alphabetize and organize materials chronologically.
- Attention to detail in analyzing medical records for completeness and accuracy.
- Effective time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and EMR software.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical issues concerning patient information.
