Trauma Registrar

Natividad Medical Center (NMC)

Natividad Medical Center is seeking a full-time Trauma Registrar to work in the Trauma Services Department. The role focuses on identifying, collecting, and abstracting data for trauma registries, including the National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB) and Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), ensuring data accuracy, correcting deficiencies, and reporting in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.

Key duties include:

  • Identifying qualifying trauma cases per American College of Surgeons (ACS) standards.
  • Abstracting data from patient medical records for statistical reporting and trauma registries.
  • Maintaining an electronic trauma registry following ACS accreditation standards.
  • Utilizing AIS/ISS and ICD-10 coding for data compilation.
  • Generating reports for performance improvement and research.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and quality control of patient data.
  • Participating in continuing education and updating registry-related policies.

Qualifications:

  • Preferably one year experience as a trauma registrar or two years in data registry management.
  • Associate Degree in a health-related field with ICD-10 coursework.
  • Certification as a Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) and Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) highly desirable.

Additional Information:

  • 100% on-site training required.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical/medical assessment and background checks.
  • Work may include irregular hours and possible exposure to hazardous substances.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Knowledge of trauma registration practices and procedures.
  • Medical terminology related to pre-hospital and emergency care.
  • Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, AIS/ISS, and ICD-10 coding.
  • Experience with electronic data management and hospital databases (e.g., Meditech).
  • Ability to read and interpret medical records and prepare detailed reports.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with healthcare personnel.
  • Certification as CSTR and/or CAISS preferred.
  • Completion of Associate Degree in relevant health field and ICD-10 coursework.
