The Medical Records Clerk is a vital role responsible for maintaining accurate health records. This role involves organizing and managing an approved system of records, ensuring patient information is properly documented and secure. The clerk is accountable and efficient, making sure all records are up-to-date and accessible to authorized personnel.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Training in an accredited medical record program or at least one year experience in an established medical record system preferred but not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure confidentiality of all medical records and complete forms for release of information, referring questionable requests to the Medical Records Supervisor or Health Services Administrator.
- Maintain updated medical records filing.
- Perform clerical and technical duties such as preparing reports, correspondence, answering phones, relaying messages, transferring calls, and filing documentation.
- Schedule inmates for medical appointments as requested.
- Assist Medical Records Supervisor with statistical reports and management information system requirements.
- Actively participate in quality of care audits to promote quality improvement standards.
- Maintain accountability for organization and maintenance of health records, ensuring patient information is documented and secure.
