This person is responsible for assisting medical providers in referring patients to secondary care providers as directed, as well as scanning and importing all documents received via mail and/or virtual fax drive.
Make medical records available to practitioners and clinical personnel upon request. Help providers obtain appointments for consultations, laboratory procedures, etc., through any available means of communication. Make requests for summaries of medical care given to patients by private physicians or medical facilities; keep a record of all correspondence and provide follow-up. Follow up on patients who do not keep their specialist appointments. Track all patient referrals to ensure reports were received, scanned, and imported timely. Document all steps taken to properly process a referral. Process Orange County referrals in a timely manner. Notify provider and patient if additional tests are needed before a referral can be completed. Maintain an adequate and constant supply of printed forms and materials; process necessary authorizations and referrals, acknowledge receipt, and keep adequate records. Gather data necessary for patient charts requested by hospitals, attorneys, etc., including making copies and arranging delivery of documents. Process all assigned referrals within 24 hours unless specific circumstances prevent it. File records; attach reports of consultations and diagnostic procedures (x-ray, laboratory, consultations, etc.). Answer phone calls regarding patient questions related to medical records/referrals. Accurately scan and import all medical records received via mail within 24 hours. Verify all documents on the fax drive have been correctly scanned and imported by the end of the business day. Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent. 3 years medical experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to work under pressure. Computer literacy. Ability to work well with people.
Additional Qualifications: Bilingual is a plus.
Reports to Medical Records and Referral Manager.
Physical Requirements: Ability to sit and view a computer screen for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions. Ability to hear and converse professionally at all times.
