Medical Records Coordinator

The Medical Records Coordinator performs a variety of clerical duties involved in maintaining patient medical records including filing, retrieving and distributing medical records, loose notes and reports, and maintaining associated logs and records in accordance with established priorities and procedures.

Responsibilities include coordinating and participating in scanning of medical records for off-site practices; coordinating purge and inventory for storage of charts in off-site location; compiling and maintaining medical records of patients to document condition and treatment and to provide data for research studies; compiling medical care and census data for statistical reports; ensuring all medical files are complete with necessary documents such as dictations, laboratory and pathology reports, operative reports and notes, discharge summaries, copies of insurance cards, demographic information, and insurance authorizations; receiving and sorting requests for medical records according to priority; providing routine information to authorized requestors; preparing charts in advance for provider use; assisting in retrieval and copying of medical information in support of patient care activities, account settlements, and third party sponsorship; ensuring charts are returned and filed at the end of each day; providing coverage for the Medical Records area; creation and edits of all office forms; and performing other related duties.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, with 6 months clerical and/or general office experience; knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
