This role plays a key role in supporting medical record retrieval efforts for quality, compliance, and risk adjustment programs. The position is primarily remote, focused on accessing electronic medical records (EMR) using secure systems. From time to time, onsite retrieval assignments may be required based on project needs. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, professional, and able to manage assigned tasks independently while maintaining strict confidentiality and adhering to all HIPAA requirements.
Primary remote responsibilities include retrieving medical records from EMR/EHR systems using secure, HIPAA-compliant tools; performing quality checks to ensure records are complete, legible, and properly captured; scanning, indexing, validating, and uploading medical documentation into company systems; maintaining confidentiality; and professionally communicating with provider offices when access coordination is required.
Onsite retrieval as needed involves conducting onsite medical record retrieval at designated provider facilities when remote access is unavailable, local and occasional air travel for assignments, managing company equipment, and ensuring safety.
Required qualifications: high school diploma or equivalent, basic computer literacy with EMR/EHR portals, strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy, effective communication, HIPAA compliance, valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record, personal vehicle with insurance, ability to lift 25 pounds and travel locally and by air as needed.
Preferred qualifications include previous experience in medical records or healthcare administration and knowledge of HIPAA and PHI handling.
Work environment involves primarily remote work with periodic field assignments, with travel typical of 30-40 miles per assignment and occasional flights. Physical requirements include extended sitting and ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
Compensation for remote EMR download work is $13 - $14 per hour; onsite assignments pay $20 per hour or $3 per completed record, whichever is higher.
