This key Health Information Department position performs various functions to maintain the health information management system, ensuring compliance with hospital policies, DHHS rules, regulations, and accrediting requirements. Responsibilities include managing the release of patient information, serving as the back-up Assistant FOIA Coordinator, and acting as back-up in the absence of the department director.

Education required: Associate's degree in health information or medical record technology.

Certification required: Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator by the American Health Information Management Association.

Experience levels:

  • Medical Record Examiner 8: no specific experience required.
  • Medical Record Examiner 9: 1 year equivalent experience to Examiner 8.
  • Medical Record Examiner E10: 2 years equivalent experience including 1 year at Examiner 9 level.

Work location is physical at 1312 Oakland Dr., Kalamazoo, MI 49008; remote work not available.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in health information or medical record technology.
  • Certification as Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator from AHIMA.
  • Relevant experience as outlined by Medical Record Examiner level requirements.
  • Ability to comply with DHHS, hospital, and accrediting body policies and procedures.
  • Successful completion of background investigation and criminal records check.
  • Ability to physically report to the Kalamazoo office location.
