HIM Records Supervisor (Medical Records Supervisor 1)

The Western CT Mental Health Network (WCMHN), under the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS), seeks a HIM Records Supervisor to lead and supervise the administration and maintenance of medical records across three locations (Waterbury, Danbury, Torrington).

This role involves overseeing Medical Records Specialists and clerical staff to ensure documentation standards are met consistently, conducting chart and quality assurance audits, training staff on compliance and medical record procedures, coordinating EMR system implementation, and managing abuse and neglect reporting processes with immediate protective service notifications.

Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Location: 95 Thomaston Avenue, Waterbury, CT.

The agency promotes health and wellness for persons with behavioral health needs within a large behavioral health network providing multiple services including Peer Support, Supported Employment, Residential, Crisis Services, and more.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Seven (7) years of experience in medical records maintenance and statistical reporting.
  • At least two (2) years experience at the Medical Records Specialist 2 level or equivalent.
  • Certification as Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) may be required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple work sites and clinical documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission standards, medical record coding principles (ICD, DSM, CPT), state and federal laws for health information.
  • Experience with Abuse and Neglect Reporting and Immediate Protective Service Plans.
  • College training in medical record administration may substitute experience (up to 4 years for bachelor's degree).
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, written communication, and supervisory skills.
