Registered Medical Records Coordinator

This position is exclusively for current Alabama Department of Corrections employees at the Montgomery Women's Facility.

As a Registered Medical Records Coordinator, you will work alongside correctional officers and medical professionals providing care to inmates. This role involves maintaining, organizing, and processing inmates' medical records within the correctional facility.

Responsibilities include:

  • Entering patient information into electronic systems and maintaining both physical and digital filing systems.
  • Ensuring medical documentation is complete, accurate, and of high quality.
  • Managing requests for medical information from authorized parties while adhering to HIPAA and privacy regulations.
  • Handling incoming and outgoing mail, phone calls, and relaying messages related to medical records.
  • Creating, updating, organizing, and assembling inmate medical records.
  • Performing routine clerical tasks and other assigned duties.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Word and Excel; minimum typing speed of 45 WPM.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional and legal standards within correctional healthcare.
  • Must pass criminal background check and drug screening.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients up to 50 pounds, bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and perform CPR while maintaining balance and endurance during shifts.
