The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) is a Gold Level Veteran Friendly Employer. This role functions as a paraprofessional overseeing and performing various activities to maintain medical records systems at the Carson City Correctional Facility. Work involves applying knowledge of methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations, and laws governing medical record creation and usage. This position is the senior worker in the medical record department with regular unsupervised access and direct contact with inmates. The job is inside a secure perimeter of a multi-level prison and subject to drug and alcohol testing.
Candidates must possess an associate's degree in health information or medical record technology. The position has three levels depending on experience: Medical Record Examiner 8 (no specific experience required), 9 (one year experience equivalent to Examiner 8), and E10 (two years experience, including one year equivalent to Examiner 9).
Certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator is required.
Employees must meet ethical standards and report any potential conflicts of interest. New hires and returning employees (after two years away) must complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) consisting of 40 to 80 hours of in-person training plus additional online training.
