Under direction of the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager, the Trauma Registrar abstracts and codes trauma patient medical record data per American College of Surgeons, Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), State of Ohio Trauma Registry, and regional trauma system guidelines. Responsibilities include data collection, abstraction, and entry of trauma patient info into the trauma registry, assigning ICD-9/ICD-10, ISS, AIS, E-Codes, and Trauma Scores. The role requires multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities:
- Identify patient records for trauma registry entry
- Abstract and enter trauma patient data timely, finalizing no later than 60 days post discharge
- Participate in data validation, maintain standards
- Comply with internal/external reporting requirements
- Assist with trauma center verification preparation
- Ensure data submission deadlines for American College of Surgeons and State of Ohio
- Close charts per ACS guidelines
- Complete 8 hours trauma registry related continuing education annually
- Obtain required certifications/education (AAAM AIS, trauma registry, ICD-10 or updates)
Minimum:
- Knowledge of Epic and Excel
Preferred:
- Associate's Degree in healthcare or two years experience including medical terminology
- Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Experience with case abstraction, data entry, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, AIS/ISS scoring
- RHIT or coding background
- Previous experience as Trauma Registrar
- Background in anatomy and medical terminology
- Knowledge of TraumaBase
