Medical Records Coordinator 2

Working as part of the Student Health Services Health Information Management team, this role supports the Ohio State University student population by ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of patient health records. Key responsibilities include analyzing health records for completeness and accuracy; resolving unmatched reports; reviewing records for quality issues; managing internal and external health records including diagnostic test results, medical referrals, and others into the patient's electronic health record (EHR); preparing, scanning, and indexing health documents following established protocols; responding to authorized internal and external requests for health records; adhering to HIPAA regulations; maintaining vaccination compliance records for incoming students; reviewing records for accuracy and compliance; updating information in the electronic health record; addressing student inquiries about compliance status and explaining relevant policies.

This position is 100% onsite at Wilce Student Health Center, working the first shift (40 hours per week). Final candidates are subject to background check and possibly drug screening or physical. The position does not sponsor work visas.

Required qualifications include a High School diploma or GED, one year of experience in customer service or communications with analytical abilities, six months of computer operation experience, and three months experience in information research and analysis.

Desired qualifications include 2-4 years of relevant experience; knowledge of office practices and equipment; 3 years’ experience with Microsoft Office; ability to produce moderate to complex written documents; working knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and clinical data related to health information; familiarity with legal and regulatory standards governing health information; at least one year experience analyzing patient medical records for completeness and appropriateness; strong multitasking and communication skills; and certified public notary status.

Additional targeted hiring wage range is approximately $15.86 to $20.74 per hour.

The role supports health information management and medical records management functions, contributing to compliance and quality standards within a university health service environment.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Three months experience in information research and analysis

  • Familiarity with legal principles, policies, and regulations regarding health information management
  • At least 1 year experience analyzing patient records for completeness and appropriateness
  • Strong multitasking and communication skills with diverse populations
  • Certified public notary
