The Department of Human Services (DHS), Selinsgrove Center is seeking an organized and detail-oriented Medical Records Assistant. This role supports quality patient care by maintaining accurate patient health information and ensuring patient confidentiality.
As a Medical Records Assistant, you will perform complex clerical functions including maintaining Individual Unit Records for a habilitative facility housing 200+ persons with intellectual disabilities. Responsibilities include coding admissions and diagnoses using ICD-10 codes for billing Medicare, maintaining accurate centralized records, upholding confidentiality and HIPAA compliance, responding to agencies and billing centers, purging records, filing documents, assisting the HIPAA Privacy officer, accessing FACT and CENNET databases, completing discharges, preparing files for permanent storage, and maintaining discharge and death logs.
Work Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours/week, 1st shift (8:00 AM to 4:00 PM) Monday to Friday with a 30-minute lunch. Overtime and travel as needed. Telework not allowed. Free parking available.
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of clerical experience in medical records maintenance, transcription, abstracting, or coding; or
- Graduation from an accredited program in medical secretarial, medical records, transcription, assisting, coding, or health information management; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements and be able to perform essential job functions. The position requires a medical examination and satisfactory criminal history clearances (including PA State Police and FBI).

- Experience using medical databases such as FACT and CENNET.
