GI Alliance is seeking an experienced Medical Records Specialist I.
This role is responsible for assembling patient information into patients' medical charts/records in an accurate and complete manner. Key duties include:
- Assembling patients' health information such as symptoms, medical history, exam results, X-ray reports, lab tests, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
- Reviewing all forms to ensure completion, proper identification, signatures, and that necessary information is included in manual or computer files in preferred chronological style.
- Communicating with physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify diagnoses or obtain additional information.
- Submitting files and documentation to physicians and clinicians for review, quality assurance checks, and other purposes.
- Providing charts/documents for legal actions while adhering to patient consent and confidentiality protocols.
- Managing the patient portal for the medical office.
- Using practice management software to store, tabulate, analyze, and retrieve data to improve patient care, control costs, respond to surveys, or contribute to research studies.
- Protecting patients' health information confidentiality and ensuring authorized access and data security.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum two years as a medical records specialist, preferably in a medical practice setting.
- Entry level position requiring 1-4 years of experience or meeting basic requirements with supervision.
Skills:
- Ability to alphabetize and organize information chronologically.
- Attention to detail in analyzing medical records for completeness and accuracy.
- Effective time management and multitasking.
- Competent in using Microsoft Office and EMR software.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical considerations related to patient information.
- Skill in using preferred medical record systems to meet clinic standards.
