Unit Coordinator (Ward Clerk)

Bakersfield Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is an acute psychiatric and behavioral 90-bed facility located in Bakersfield, California, offering inpatient and outpatient services for mental/behavioral health, chemical dependency, and co-occurring disorders treatment through medically supervised detoxification.

The Unit Coordinator (Ward Clerk) manages administrative and clerical functions in the Inpatient Nursing Department. Responsibilities include assisting with patient scheduling; coordinating and updating unit bed boards; helping other departments with patient documentation; completing daily acuity reports; performing follow-up and wellness checks for patients; chart filing; tracking and updating unit census; answering unit phones; ensuring forms and documents are updated and compliant; stocking supplies; and assisting in staff breaks and team lead coverage as needed.

This role serves as a vital resource for patients, families, physicians, staff, administration, and visitors, coordinating information and activities to support safe, quality patient care.

Work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am-5pm.

A starting hourly wage of $21.00 applies, increasing to $23.00 per hour starting 6/1/2026. The position is non-exempt and overtime eligible.

Candidates should have a High School Diploma or equivalent, a current CPR certification or obtain one before start, and complete "Handle-With-Care" Physical Restraint Technique Training during orientation. Ideally, applicants have at least 6 months of hospital, administrative, or clerical experience.
