As a Medical Records Specialist, you will assist the HIM Director by routinely performing duties in support of the management of the Horizon Patient Folder (HPF)/McKesson Patient Folder (MPF) workflow queues, working applicable worklists within 3M 360 Encompass, resolving unbilled accounts, and processing physician suspensions. You will also serve as the primary contact when the HIM Director and/or HIM Coordinator is unavailable.
Responsibilities include:
- Retrieve discharged medical records from various hospital departments and reconcile to ensure all records are accounted for.
- Facilitate retrieval, printing, storage, archival, and retention of medical records and documents that cannot be scanned into HPF/MPF (e.g., fetal monitor strips).
- Assist with the physician suspension process by evaluating suspensions, preparing lists for approval, sending notice letters, and making reminder calls.
- Prepare medical records and loose documents for scanning.
- Scan and index medical record documents.
- Interact with parents to collect and document birth information and guide completion of birth forms.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Hospital or medical office experience preferred but not required.
- Previous experience handling patient health information, medical records document imaging, and/or medical records is strongly preferred.
- State certification may be required for birth certificate processing; training and course fees provided.
