Coding Denials Analyst

Work location: Remote

Work hours: Monday through Friday (full time hours)

Education required:

  • Associate's Degree in Health Information Services or related field, OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent plus 3 Years Coding experience in lieu of degree

Experience:

  • 3 Years Coding in an acute care setting required
  • 2 Years Performing billing and coding denials resolution preferred

Licenses and Certifications (Required upon hire):

  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or
  • Certified Coding Associate (CCA), or
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or
  • Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or
  • Other relevant AHIMA or AAPC coding certifications (e.g., CIC, CIRCC)

Skills:

  • Ability to locate, research, comprehend and apply 3rd party payer rules and regulations
  • Analyze and resolve complex coding related claim or payor denials to ensure accurate and optimal reimbursement
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and billing software applications
  • Thorough understanding of ICD10-CM/PCS, DRG methodologies, CPT-4, Outpatient Code Editor, and National Correct Coding Initiative policies
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills
  • Detail oriented and ability to meet deadlines
  • Adaptability to changing priorities and workload volume

Responsibilities:

  • Review, research, resolve and trend billing and coding edits
  • Trend documentation, reimbursement, and coding
  • Assist leadership with fiscal management of coding resources and processes
  • Maintain professional accountability

Requirements & Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate's Degree in Health Information Services or related field or High School Diploma with 3 years coding experience

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years coding in acute care

Certifications:

  • Must have or obtain upon hire one of the following: CCS, CCA, RHIA, RHIT, CPC, COC, or other relevant AHIMA or AAPC coding certifications
