Education required:
- Associate's Degree in Health Information Services or related field, OR
- High School Diploma or Equivalent plus 3 Years Coding experience in lieu of degree
Experience:
- 3 Years Coding in an acute care setting required
- 2 Years Performing billing and coding denials resolution preferred
Licenses and Certifications (Required upon hire):
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or
- Certified Coding Associate (CCA), or
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or
- Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or
- Other relevant AHIMA or AAPC coding certifications (e.g., CIC, CIRCC)
Skills:
- Ability to locate, research, comprehend and apply 3rd party payer rules and regulations
- Analyze and resolve complex coding related claim or payor denials to ensure accurate and optimal reimbursement
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and billing software applications
- Thorough understanding of ICD10-CM/PCS, DRG methodologies, CPT-4, Outpatient Code Editor, and National Correct Coding Initiative policies
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong decision making and problem solving skills
- Detail oriented and ability to meet deadlines
- Adaptability to changing priorities and workload volume
Responsibilities:
- Review, research, resolve and trend billing and coding edits
- Trend documentation, reimbursement, and coding
- Assist leadership with fiscal management of coding resources and processes
- Maintain professional accountability
