This position is located at The Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. It involves using hospital automated patient health record software such as Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS to retrieve reports and input data. The role functions primarily as an inpatient/outpatient records coder, ensuring compliance with regulatory and insurance requirements using ICD-10-CM and Procedure Coding System (PCS). Duties include assigning codes to medical records, sequencing codes to reflect care procedures, correcting and amending records, and coding complicated medical records such as diagnostic, surgical, and therapeutic procedures on difficult-to-classify DRGs. The role includes identifying potential compensatory events or breaches of quality of care.
Must meet education and/or experience requirements for GS-05 or GS-06 specialist coding levels. GS-05: One year specialized experience with medical software systems for coding workflow or relevant education (bachelor's degree) or combination. GS-06: One year specialized experience managing medical records and reviewing medical coding including ICD, CPT, HCPCS, CDT, DRGs or graduate level education in relevant fields. Certification such as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is highly desired. U.S. Citizenship is required. Background investigation, immunization screening, and probationary period apply. Knowledge of medical coding systems and compliance standards is necessary.
