The Senior Auditing Consultant role involves accurately examining and evaluating medical records and health information for coding accuracy in hospital inpatient, outpatient, behavioral health, and physician coding contexts.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing audits for inpatient, behavioral health, ambulatory surgery, emergency room, hospital professional fee visits, and evaluation/management coding for professional and/or facility reporting.
- Utilizing knowledge of reimbursement systems like IPPPS, APC, and RBRVS.
- Providing educational services to clients, coders, and providers based on audit findings.
- Analyzing audit results to identify patterns and communicating opportunities for coder improvement.
- Using coding books, procedure manuals, and online encoders in a virtual office environment.
- Maintaining patient and physician confidentiality following applicable guidelines.
- Keeping up-to-date with CPT and ICD-10 coding principles, government regulations, and protocols.
Qualifications:
- RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS/P, or CPC certification.
- Minimum 3 years of professional fee auditing experience including multiple specialties.
- Preferably skilled in prospective payment methodologies and physician office billing.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-10/CPT-4 codes.
- Detail-oriented with ability to work independently.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
The position offers an annual salary range between $70,000 and $80,000, varying by factors such as location, experience, certifications, and skills. The role supports remote work through a virtual office setup.
