The Patient Financial Representative supports management in billing and collection of accounts receivable for self-pay accounts.
Responsibilities include reviewing self-pay bills for accuracy, verifying insurance coverage, completing billing processes for Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and patients, and correcting or reassigning accounts appropriately. They work with patients on billing and payment questions, verify and send patient estimates promptly, change insurance plans for statement accuracy, maintain account activity files, and ensure timely filing and payment.
They also collaborate closely with outsourced billing departments, collection vendors, and MN Revenue Recapture to ensure account accuracy. This role supports organizational policies and Joint Commission standards required for accreditation.
The position reports to the Revenue Cycle Manager and is part of the Business Office. The work schedule is full-time, Monday through Friday during day hours.
- 3 to 5 years in an office clerical setting, with at least 1 year in a hospital or clinic business office.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple correspondence.
- Proficient with basic mathematical skills involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with American currency.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Epic software, with willingness to learn new software.
- Ability to follow detailed, written, or oral instructions and resolve problems involving standardized situations.
- Physical capability to frequently sit, occasionally stand/walk, occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, and good close vision.
