Auditor - ProFee & Facility Outpatient

STAR Medical Auditing Services is a boutique consulting firm providing Health Information Management (HIM) and Clinical services across the U.S. The Auditor reviews medical records and coded data to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to federal regulations and payer guidelines. Responsibilities include reviewing medical records, validating coded data against official coding guidelines and client-specific requirements, ensuring ethical and regulatory compliance, recommending corrections for ambiguous documentation, and maintaining confidentiality according to HIPAA.

Required qualifications include AHIMA/AAPC certification (CPC or CCS required; CPMA preferred), extensive knowledge of medical terminology and coding guidelines (ICD-10, PCS, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers), and at least 5 years auditing experience in inpatient, emergency, outpatient, and observation settings, especially related to ProFee and facility outpatient audits. Additional skills include legal and regulatory knowledge, proficiency with EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Meditech, Cerner), strong analytical and communication skills, and ability to meet productivity and accuracy standards.

Physical requirements involve regular computer use and prolonged sitting, consistent with ADA and other standards.

This position is remote.

Pay is $28 - $30 per hour. Benefits include flexible schedule and paid time off.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • Must have CPC or CCS certification; CPMA preferred
  • Minimum 5 years recent auditing experience in inpatient ProFee hospitalist, consultations, ICU, emergency department, outpatient clinic, urgent care, observation services
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-10, PCS, CPT, HCPCS Level II codes, modifiers, NCCI edits
  • Proficient in medical terminology, anatomy, coding guidelines
  • Knowledge of legal, regulatory, and compliance issues for coding and billing
  • Experience with EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Cerner, Athena and coding software (3M CAC, Optum Encoder)
  • Strong analytical, research, communication, and attention to detail skills
  • Ability to meet productivity and accuracy requirements
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
