Medical Records Administration Specialist (Charge Analyst)

The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting a Medical Records Administration Specialist (Charge Analyst) to work within the Health Information Management Service (HIMS) section of Patient Care Administrative Service (PCAS).

Responsibilities include assisting the Chief, Health Information Management, providing expertise on health records and medical coding compliance (ICD, CPT, HCPCS), training staff, performing quality improvement projects, analyzing and reporting on HIM performance, supporting clinical staff with healthcare data retrieval, troubleshooting EHRM systems, ensuring compliance with documentation and charging procedures, and participating in committees with health information management expertise.

The role requires knowledge of medical coding, health information management regulations, confidentiality laws, revenue cycle operations, and working with physicians and clinical providers to ensure accurate health record documentation.

Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. Telework may be available as determined by agency policy. This is not a virtual position.

Requirements & Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Three years of experience in medical records and health information management, OR a bachelor's degree in health information management or related field with appropriate coursework, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC (CCS, CCS-P, CPC, COC, CIC), HIM Certification (RHIT, RHIA), or Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to comply with federal background and physical requirements.
  • Skill in process improvement, advising regarding documentation and HIM practices, and data analysis.
  • Preferred: Experience equivalent to GS-11 level responsibilities in health information management.
