Support Services Specialist - Dental Patient Business Office

Join our Business Office team at the College of Dentistry! Play a key role in supporting dentistry revenue cycle by helping patients navigate insurance complexities and ensuring their financial well-being.

Responsibilities include providing financial guidance on insurance coverage, approving student lab orders after payment, managing Medicaid verification, reviewing patient eligibility and benefits, educating students on insurance processes, handling patient inquiries on balances and payments, processing insurance claims, prior authorizations, appeals, monitoring accounts, managing refunds, and maintaining compliance with College policies.

Schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional overtime. Work location is on-site in Iowa City, IA.

Requirements & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience.

High-level, fast-paced customer service experience in financial, healthcare, or relevant environment including knowledge of healthcare billing and revenue cycle.

Excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, proficiency with standard office software (Microsoft or Google).

Ability to maintain professionalism, handle complex situations, active listening, conflict management, and collaborative teamwork.

Desirable qualifications: knowledge of HIPAA, awareness of insurance industry trends, experience with electronic health records, knowledge of dental/medical terminology.
