We are hiring experienced Inpatient Medical Coding Auditors to perform comprehensive audits of acute inpatient medical records ensuring accurate coding, documentation compliance, and appropriate DRG assignment. The role involves identifying systemic risks, providing feedback, and ensuring adherence to ICD-10-CM/PCS Official Guidelines, AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding, AHA Coding Clinic guidelines, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Performing retrospective and prospective coding audits on acute inpatient charts (MS-DRG/APR-DRG) for accuracy and compliance
- Reviewing medical records for complete documentation supporting coded diagnoses and procedures
- Validating ICD-10-CM/PCS code selection, Present on Admission (POA) indicators, and discharge disposition
- Delivering educational insights and systemic feedback
- Identifying facility-wide coding error trends, revenue leakage, and documentation bottlenecks to improve processes
- Staying updated on CMS regulations, HIPAA, and coding guidelines
Qualifications:
- Active AHIMA certification (CCS, RHIA, RHIT) or AAPC certification (CIC, CPC, CPMA)
- Minimum 3-5 years inpatient facility coding auditing experience
- Expertise in ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, UHDDS, DRG payment methodologies
- Proficiency with EHR systems and Microsoft Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Experience with Level 1 Trauma or academic medical center records
