Dental Assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, supplies, and sterilized equipment in accordance with infection control protocols.
  • Assist dentists during a variety of procedures including restorations, extractions, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
  • Take and develop dental X-rays while adhering to HIPAA regulations and safety standards.
  • Manage patient records efficiently using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring accuracy in medical documentation and records management.
  • Provide chairside assistance by handing instruments, suctioning, and maintaining proper aseptic technique throughout procedures.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, post-treatment care, and answer their questions to promote ongoing dental health.
  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, greeting patients as a dental receptionist, and managing medical coding for billing purposes.

Skills:

  • Proficiency with dental software including Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
  • Experience with X-ray procedures, 3D scanners, medical imaging, and vital signs monitoring.
  • Familiarity with pediatric dentistry principles and working with children in a clinical setting.
  • Ability to perform chairside assisting in general dentistry procedures as well as specialized fields like endodontics or prosthodontics.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members including dental receptionists and hygienists; experience in medical coding is a plus.

Requirements & Qualifications

Dental X-ray certification required. Proficiency with dental EMR software such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic. Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control, and aseptic techniques. Experience taking and developing dental X-rays. Ability to assist chairside in various dental procedures. Understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy.
