Lead Uniform Business Office Technician

US Military Treatment Facilities under DHA

Serve as a Uniform Business Office (UBO) Lead Technician for Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia Directorate of Resource Management.

Perform functions supporting Medical Affirmative Claims, Third Party Liability, Medical Services Accounts, Third Party Collections, Elective Cosmetic Surgery, and Inter-Agency Billing programs.

Plan, direct, and schedule work with assistance from the UBO Manager and Supervisor; assign work; assist with under-paid/unpaid claims; reconcile financial and billing data.

Provide technical guidance; audit use of ICD and CPT codes, clinical rates, account payments, and compliance with denial or reduced payment guidelines.

Coordinate with Inpatient Records staff to ensure timely approval of inpatient records and verify outpatient visit codes to facilitate billing.

Appointment may require background investigation, eligibility for Secret security clearance, and mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination (with medical or religious exemptions).

Salary includes applicable locality or market pay; full-time permanent federal position with benefits.

Requirements & Qualifications

One year of specialized experience: planning, scheduling, assigning work; preparing and submitting claims; using automation systems to reconcile financial data.

Must complete training and obtain Level 1 certification within 2 years.

U.S. Citizenship required; background and credit checks, and Secret security clearance eligibility necessary.

Must satisfy suitability/fitness determination and complete a 1-year probationary period.

No education substitution for experience allowed.

May require influenza vaccination unless exempted.
