Trauma Registrar

The Trauma Registrar accurately compiles and maintains concurrent review of medical records and databases related to trauma patients, coordinates data collection, manages data, and ensures regulatory compliance. Responsibilities include uploading trauma data to Texas Department of Health and Human Services (TDSHS) and the American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Improvement Program (ACS TQIP), analyzing trauma registry data for validity and trends, generating reports, assisting with Trauma Service meetings, and participating in quality improvement activities for trauma patient care.

Required qualifications include computer literacy with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases, skill in math and statistics, strong verbal and written communication skills, knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical and trauma terminology, and ability to work in a high-pressure environment. Experience in Trauma or EMS Registry, medical record review, ICD-10 and E codes is required.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's degree preferred. Completion of American Trauma Society Trauma Registry Course, Trauma and Acute Care Foundation Data Management Course, and AAAM Injury Severity Scale Course (or equivalent approved courses) within twelve months of hire. Certification as Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) required for Level I and II facilities after one year of experience.

  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple changing priorities
  • Experience with Trauma Registry/EMS Registry, medical record review, ICD-10 and E coding
  • High School Diploma/GED required; Associate's degree preferred
  • Completion of Trauma Registry and Injury Severity Scale courses within 12 months of hire
  • Certification as Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist (CAISS) for Level I and II trauma centers after one year of experience
