Patient Account Representative I

LeConte Medical Center, part of Covenant Health, is a 79-bed community hospital in Sevier County, delivering modern medicine and compassionate care. The Patient Account Representative (Financial Counselor) is responsible for increasing Revenue Cycle Management efficiency by maximizing patient cash collections, reducing bad debt, and verifying patient demographic and insurance information to reduce denials.

Primary responsibilities include verifying patient information, reviewing admission records to ensure accurate insurance billing, calculating patient and insurance portions due, assisting patients with financial assistance applications, collecting co-pays and deductibles, recording payments, reconciling transactions, and providing support to the registration team as needed. The role involves collaboration with Utilization Management, clinical units, and physician practices to improve collections and cash flow. Adherence to policies, procedures, safety standards, and participation in quality improvement and education assignments are required.

Qualifications: Any combination of education and/or work experience demonstrating required knowledge, typically equivalent to high school diploma or GED. Preference for an Associate’s degree in a related field. Hospital registration or insurance follow-up experience is preferred. No licensure required.
