Kettering Health Springfield is seeking a Medical Technologist for full-time varied shifts.
The role involves performing accurate laboratory testing, recognizing abnormal or unusual results, reporting results timely and accurately by various communication means, and notifying appropriate personnel as necessary. Responsibilities include performing instrument checks, quality control, routine equipment maintenance and calibration, troubleshooting QC issues, following instructions for analyzer operation and reagent preparation, and documenting appropriately. The Medical Technologist actively participates in laboratory communications and staff meetings.
Proper sample preparation, labeling, specimen preservation, transport, safe handling, and proficiency sample handling are essential. The role includes notifying caregivers by telephone of critical or corrected results and documenting notifications as per policy.
Organizational skills to prioritize and multitask are required. The employee will teach procedures for which they are competent and evaluate trainees. Applying disease process theory to testing and test results, performing accuracy, precision, and correlation studies for assays, assisting with work schedules, training, supply inventory, purchasing, performance improvement, and compliance plans are also key duties. Competency maintenance and performing lab testing as required are expected.

Candidates must have one of the following qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university including courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics AND successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Science program or BS/BA program in a related science that meets certification requirements. MT/MLS (ASCP) or MT/MLS (AMT) required or (ASCP) categorical certification with a BS/BA in related science.
- Associate degree from an accredited college/university in Medical Laboratory Science or related science including 60 semester hours of academic credit with 6 semester hours each of chemistry and biology, or graduation from a military medical laboratory specialist program. MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) required.
- Students who will complete NAACLS accredited programs within 6 months and are eligible for national board exams will also be considered.
Preferred skills include knowledge and ability to perform accurate testing tailored to the section, understanding standardization and quality control theory, troubleshooting, safety regulations, regulatory requirements, statistical methods, and effective communication with patients, hospital personnel, and physicians.
