This position is in the Health Information Management (HIM) service at the VA St. Louis Health Care System in St. Louis, Missouri. The Medical Records Administration Specialist (MRAS) performs work related to management of health record programs and health information services including preservation, analysis, and supervision of diagnostic and therapeutic health records.
Key duties include providing training on HIM topics, performing quality improvement projects, conducting presentations, performing audits and analyzing/reporting HIM performance, retrieving data for special studies, serving as a primary resource for leadership, acting as a Subject Matter Expert for technology assessment, managing documentation corrections, and collaborating with clinicians.
The role supports compliance with The Joint Commission standards, VA regulations, medical coding and reimbursement methodologies, health records confidentiality, and release of information laws.
Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM. Telework is available as per agency policy but this is not a virtual position.

Qualifications require three years of experience in medical records/health information management or equivalent education (bachelor's degree in health information management or related, with specific semester hours) plus relevant certifications such as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA). Advanced education or graduate degrees are relevant for higher grade levels.
