Plan Document Specialist

The Plan Document Specialist plays a key role in shaping and maintaining the foundation of health plans by developing and updating plan documents such as Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs), Certificates of Coverage (COC), and Summaries of Benefits and Coverage (SBC). The specialist ensures the documents are accurate, compliant with healthcare laws like ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, and MHPAEA, and tailored to each client’s plan. Key responsibilities include drafting and revising plan documents, customizing templates for client specifics, ensuring consistency, maintaining version control, monitoring and interpreting federal regulations, supporting internal staff with document understanding, and assisting audits or legal reviews. This remote role is open to candidates in Utah, Texas, Arizona, Idaho, or Colorado. Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health policy, business, legal studies, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience with plan documents in health benefits or insurance environment, preferably with a TPA or health plan administrator
  • Strong familiarity with ERISA-governed health plans, self-funded plans, wrap document structures
  • Understanding of ACA, HIPAA Privacy & Security, COBRA, and other federal health benefit mandates
