This position supports the California Department of Public Health's mission by amending and maintaining permanent vital records of birth, death, fetal death, and marriage.
Duties include reviewing and evaluating complex requests for vital records and certified copies, searching, scanning, batching, imaging, document retrieval from film, printing to security banknote paper, and quality checking vital records to ensure compliance with state policies, statutes, regulations, and office procedures.
Processes complex amendments to vital records including Adoption, Acknowledgement of Paternity, Adjudication of Parentage, Court Order Name Change, Gender Reassignment, Gender Error, and others. Reviews legal documents for compliance with Health and Safety Code and communicates effectively with county staff, members of the public, judges, and legal advocates.
Works under general supervision of the Supervisor I of the Vital Records Policy and Compliance Unit.
Position may require up to 5% travel and is a 12-month Limited-Term Full-Time position, potentially extendable or permanent.
Telework may be eligible at the discretion of the Department; candidates must reside in California.
