Responsible for processing a high volume of medical records requests, maintaining electronic health records, and ensuring full compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and applicable state and federal regulations. Work is office based with frequent computer use and may require sitting for extended periods. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs and travel between sites may be required.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
Process and respond to medical records requests timely and professionally. Review and verify Releases of Information (ROI) for completeness, accuracy, and legal sufficiency. Retrieve, scan, and upload records into the electronic health record system. Maintain accurate logs of all record requests and disclosures. Assist with subpoenas and legal requests, including court attendance if needed. Communicate with providers, clients, and external partners to obtain or clarify documentation. Support audits, compliance reviews, and reporting requirements.
High school diploma or GED required.
Eligibility for AHIMA certification as a Medical Records Technician OR two years of experience in a medical records setting OR one year of experience as a Medical Records Technician I or equivalent.
Minimum of five years of office or administrative experience required.
Experience in behavioral health or human services preferred.
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
