Coder Trainee

ICFAI

The Coder/Abstractor accurately codes diagnoses and procedures for correct billing and statistical reporting using ICD-9-CM and CPT nomenclatures.

It also monitors and processes unbilled accounts and performs various computer-related tasks.

Additional responsibilities include coding outpatient and emergency room records accurately and in a timely manner, reviewing records for medical necessity, querying physicians when necessary, and monitoring the outpatient unbilled report to maintain timely coding.

The role includes full access to patient health information.

Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with progression to remote work.

Requirements & Qualifications

High school diploma required; RHIT or CCS certification, or enrollment in a program, preferred.

Current AHIMA accreditation or certification preferred, or the ability to obtain certification within 1 year of training.

Excellent computer and typing skills required, along with knowledge of office equipment including microfilm readers and printers.

Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and various medical specialties.

Ability to read various handwriting, maintain attention to detail, and work independently.

Ability to handle stress in a mature and professional manner and identify problem situations with appropriate improvement actions.

Must be able to pass a basic FIT test and perform physical tasks including bending, stooping, standing, and sitting for extended periods while handling medical records.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Requires eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, normal vision/hearing range, no color blindness, and the ability to distinguish letters and numbers.
