UPMC Corporate Revenue Cycle is hiring a Coder II to join the Coding Department. This is a work-from-home position working Monday through Friday during business hours.
The role focuses on outpatient coding, including CCI and NCCI edits, diagnosis and procedure coding using ICD-10 and CPT, and charging for injections, infusions, and hydrations.
Requirements & Qualifications
Responsibilities
- Review coding for accuracy and completeness prior to submission to the billing system using CCI edits and standard coding guidelines.
- Assign appropriate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and DSM IV codes using coding clinics, CPT Assistant, and related resources.
- Participate in monthly coding meetings and continue education through seminars and updated coding guidance.
- Meet coding accuracy standards of 95% within the first year and maintain productivity standards.
- Code diagnoses and procedures by thoroughly reviewing all available documentation.
- Use hospital information systems, encoders, and electronic medical record repositories to complete coding tasks.
- Abstract medical and demographic information when needed and correct data errors.
- Refer problem accounts to appropriate coding or management personnel.
- Maintain productivity statistics and submit weekly productivity reports.
- Determine diagnoses and procedures, sequence codes appropriately, and assign DRG/APC/ASC or payment tiers as applicable.
- Identify incomplete documentation and prepare physician queries when needed.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two years of hospital coding experience.
- Completion of an AHIMA- or AACP-certified coding program or equivalent.
- Program curriculum should include Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Medical Terminology, ICD-10-CM, and CPT coding guidelines and procedures.
- Eligible for RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification.
