Full-time day shift role with hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm. This position includes a $5,000 sign-on bonus.

Remote work is allowed, but the candidate must reside in South Carolina.

Lexington Health is a comprehensive healthcare network serving the Columbia, South Carolina region and surrounding communities. The organization includes community medical and urgent care centers, physician practices, a teaching hospital, and several specialized care facilities.

The role is responsible for assigning appropriate ICD and CPT codes for reimbursement and statistical purposes, following coding and regulatory guidelines, and abstracting clinical information from medical records for complete and accurate documentation.

The coder will work independently and collaboratively with physicians, coding staff, and other hospital personnel to support accurate code assignment, quality improvement, and timely coding turnaround.

Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3 years of professional coding experience covering multiple clinical and/or surgical specialties
  • Successfully met quality and productivity standards
  • Active AAPC or AHIMA coding credential

Required training and experience

  • Experience with CPT and ICD diagnosis coding
  • Experience with CCI edits
  • Experience with Medicare LCDs and NCDs
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations and payer billing requirements
  • Computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with electronic health records software
  • Experience with E/M documentation guidelines (1995, 1997, and 2021)

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret medical documentation to assign ICD and CPT codes accurately
  • Abstract information into computer systems for reimbursement and statistical purposes
  • Stay current on healthcare coding and compliance trends
  • Communicate coding and documentation issues to management
  • Assist with coding claim edits and review claim denials for correction
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and coding staff to ensure proper code assignment and continuous quality improvement
