Optum is seeking a medical coder with expertise in facility outpatient observation coding to support health outcomes and health equity initiatives.
This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday during normal business hours, with occasional overtime as needed. The position allows telecommuting from anywhere within the U.S., subject to telecommuter policy requirements.
The role focuses on accurate assignment of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers for facility services while following official and client-specific coding guidelines. The coder will also support coding quality, productivity, and ongoing coding education.
• High School Diploma or GED • Professional coder certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC such as CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, or CPC, maintained annually • 2+ years of experience with ICD-10, CPT, and modifiers • 2+ years of experience in observation coding • Intermediate experience using a Windows PC, Microsoft Excel, and EMR systems • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and communication skills • Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, APC, NCCI edits, Medicare LCD, and NCD policies • Ability to query physicians and forms when appropriate • Must maintain a dedicated private work area and secure sensitive documents • Must have access to approved high-speed internet in a U.S. location • Ability to adhere to the company's telecommuter policy
