Optum is seeking an Evaluation & Management Medical Coder/Auditor to provide coding and coding auditing services directly to providers. This role involves analyzing and translating medical and clinical diagnoses, procedures, injuries, and illnesses into designated numerical codes.
The position is full-time with standard business hours of 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM CST and may require occasional overtime based on business needs. Paid training is provided for four weeks and will be conducted virtually from home.
This role allows telecommuting from anywhere within the U.S. and includes provider education outreach by phone and email, as well as outpatient claims auditing and written feedback based on industry standards and health plan guidelines.
Required qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Professional coder certification: CPC, COC, CPC-P, or CCS, with AHIMA and/or AAPC credentialing maintained annually
- Medical coding or auditing experience within the past year
- 2+ years of experience with Evaluation & Management (E&M) medical coding
- 2+ years of experience interacting with physicians in a medical setting, including medical coding, medical billing, or claims processing
- 2+ years of high-volume telephonic experience
- 2+ years of experience working with EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to work any shift between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM CST, including occasional overtime
Preferred qualifications
- 2+ years of outpatient facility coding experience
- Experience with encoder systems such as eCAC, 3M, or EPIC
