Inpatient Coder

Remote inpatient coder role supporting a large-scale acute care coding initiative.

This position is fully remote and focused on complex inpatient coding for academic medical centers, teaching hospitals, and other high-acuity environments. The coder will assign diagnoses and procedures, validate DRGs, collaborate with CDI and HIM teams, and maintain strong quality and productivity standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Review and analyze inpatient medical records for accurate code assignment
• Assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and ICD-10-PCS procedure codes
• Independently assign and validate MS-DRGs
• Ensure compliance with Official Coding Guidelines, Coding Clinic guidance, and regulatory requirements
• Review physician documentation and initiate compliant provider queries when needed
• Collaborate with CDI, Quality, Revenue Integrity, and HIM teams
• Maintain coding quality, productivity, and accuracy standards
• Abstract required clinical and demographic data elements
• Support audit activities and respond to coding feedback as needed

The ideal candidate has experience with complex acute care inpatient coding, strong DRG assignment skills, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
