Responsible for coding all services, including major and minor surgical cases, performed in office and hospital settings for MyMichigan Medical Group, Family Practice Center, and MyMichigan Urgent Care locations.
Monitors compliance with third-party payer guidelines while ensuring maximum allowed reimbursement is attained. Uses broad knowledge of payer rules, CPT, ICD coding rules, and reimbursement requirements to ensure procedures are coded correctly for timely and accurate payment.
Primary duties include coding visits and services within 48 hours, correcting ICD/CPT/HCPCS codes, modifiers, and place of service, coding major and minor surgical cases including obstetrics, and collaborating with physicians/providers to improve documentation. Also reviews patient and payer concerns and provides timely communication as needed.
Qualifications
- Must have a primary address located within the state of Michigan or be willing to move to Michigan
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree preferred
- CPC, CCS, CCSP, RHIT, or RHIA certification required for E/M coding; CPC-A accepted for up to 365 days from hire or transfer
- 2 years of physician coding and billing experience preferred
- 4 years of experience in the medical field preferred
- 1 year of direct physician contact preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
- Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Windows
- Understanding of medical record and patient confidentiality laws
- Strong organizational, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks, meet productivity guidelines, and maintain regular attendance
