Analyze and interpret complex inpatient records to accurately identify and bill Trauma 1 facility inpatient services.
Assign and sequence diagnostic and procedure codes in compliance with third-party payor requirements.
Request clarification when documentation is conflicting, ambiguous, or non-specific.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 2 years of inpatient coding experience in a Trauma 1 setting
- RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CIC certification
- Strong communication, analytical, and research skills
- Keen attention to detail
- Knowledge of facility diagnosis and procedure coding concepts
- Knowledge of DRG assignment
- Familiarity with legal and policy directives related to coding
- Familiarity with coding reference materials, standards, and guidelines
- Experience using EMRs and encoders, or ability to learn quickly
- Understanding of confidentiality requirements
