This role requires expertise in ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems to assign accurate diagnostic and procedural codes, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, payer requirements, and industry standards for reimbursement and billing.
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures.
- Assign ICD, CPT, and HCPCS codes accurately.
- Ensure coding complies with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and CMS requirements.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to support accurate documentation.
- Submit codes for billing and resolve discrepancies.
- Stay current on coding changes and best practices.
- Communicate effectively with management and other departments via telephone and email.
- Use required EHR software effectively.
Requirements & Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- One year of medical coding experience.
- Post-hire medical coding certification within one year from AHIMA or AAPC, such as RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC/CPC-A, or an AAPC physician specialty certification.
- Proficiency in electronic coding systems and electronic health records.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and email applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to research and use available resources effectively.
- Ability to work remotely with required hardware and high-speed internet.
Preferred
- Associate degree in health information management or medical coding.
