Medical Device Coder

Join the healthcare information technology team at First Databank (FDB), part of Hearst Health, where you’ll help transform drug and medical device data into actionable knowledge used by healthcare organizations worldwide.

This role focuses on researching medical device information from credible sources, including the FDA, manufacturers, and CMS, to develop and maintain accurate HCPCS-coded medical device content. The position is based out of the Carmel office and follows a hybrid schedule with onsite work required at least three days per week.

Key responsibilities include maintaining the HCPCS library, supporting coding research and mapping, auditing code accuracy, updating records based on CMS changes, and ensuring coding compliance with industry standards. The role also includes helping train staff and contributing to the improvement of categorization workflows.

Requirements & Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Strong research skills for devices, categories, and HCPCS codes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and stay organized
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and coding
  • Comfort using web-based and computer applications
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Initiative to take on additional tasks
  • Ability to use approved AI tools to support coding research, content validation, audits, and workflow efficiency
  • Skill in writing structured prompts and reusable AI-assisted workflows
  • Ability to validate AI-generated outputs against credible sources and official guidance
  • Commitment to privacy, security, ethical coding standards, and human oversight

Required Experience

  • Two years of coding experience in a healthcare setting
  • CPC certification
  • Previous experience in supply chain management or the medical device industry preferred
