The Outpatient Coder is responsible for accurately abstracting data into client electronic medical record systems and applying ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines. This role performs data entry of abstracted patient information, queries physicians when needed, and collaborates with Clinical Documentation and Revenue Cycle teams to support coding accuracy and account reconciliation.
The position requires maintaining a 95% or better coding accuracy rate while meeting productivity standards. Coding workflows include ancillary, emergency department, observation, and outpatient surgery accounts.
Required Qualifications
- Approved AHIMA or AAPC coding credential
- Minimum 3 years of coding experience
- Level 1 Trauma experience required for specific clients
- Experience coding observations
- Experience coding ASC surgeries such as ENT, Orthopedics, GI, General Surgery, and OBGYN
