Mayo Clinic is seeking a Procedural/Surgical Coder to review, analyze, and code professional/physician medical record documentation, including diagnostic and procedural information for various practices.
This is a hybrid position and the selected candidate must be located within 100 miles of a Mayo Clinic campus for on-site expectations based on business needs.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma with 4 years of procedural/surgical coding experience (non-Mayo), or 4 years of non-surgical Mayo Clinic coding experience
- OR associate degree with 2 years of procedural/surgical coding experience (non-Mayo), or 2 years of non-surgical Mayo Clinic coding experience
- Required credentials: RHIA, RHIT, CCS-P, or CPC
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Preferred experience in Urology and Gynecology procedural coding
- HFMA certification preferred
- Knowledge of professional/physician coding rules for specialized medical and surgical professionals
- Experience with NCCI, NCD, LCD, and outpatient coding guidelines
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes, patient health record content, and the medical record coding process
- Understanding of compliant healthcare billing and collections principles
- Knowledge of coding and billing requirements for teaching settings and provider-based billing facilities
- Ability to work independently in a teleworking environment
- Strong organization, prioritization, communication, attention to detail, and follow-through skills
